I kind of feel bad for previous winners...I mean, this makes the work they did to earn the award look wasted. If all it takes to earn such a prestigious award is announcing supposed INTENTIONS, then shouldn't every beauty pageant contestant have won the thing for making a statement about world peace? And if global moods have changed because of his election to the office (which is implied as a reason for the award), that means the United States people as a whole should have won it because we're the fuckers who put him in the office!

I have relatives who live in Germany. They believe Obama is a great man and a great leader. I don't understand that viewpoint when he and the Democratic liberals in our government would rather save a two inch long fish over the economic livelihood of the 38 million people who live in the bread basket of the United States.

You know, maybe I am conservative to a large extent. But I hardly think that it's a crime to want prosperity and refuse to kowtow to overly pompous people/nations. The United States is a nation founded by people who didn't feel like listening to the stifling authority of their home nations. We are a rebellious, stubborn people who like to do things our own way. And the President is foolishly poking us with a stick. If he keeps it up he may, metaphorically speaking, lose a finger or two. Hopefully those fingers will be some of our idiotic liberal senators and representatives being voted out of office. And on a side note, please don't tell me that I'm an idiot for watching FOX news. I'd feel bad for you if you let me know how retarded you are by saying that.

A little while ago I posted a picture from deviantart showing a transformer carrying a package of donuts. Which leads me to a thought that's probably been done before. A hole is a gap in an object or substrate. It is an area without substance (if you disregard air) and is composed of nothing. Therefore a donut hole...has no calories. You don't get calories from eating nothing.

This kind of worries me. The possibilities of how it may turn out are disturbing to say the least. If Disney stays fairly honest to the original source material like they did with Hayao Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli's works then that's fine. I've enjoyed Marvel's works (much more than DC's) and I really hope they don't try to censor and cutesy them up. Troublesome, very troublesome.

Combustibles are Love

Went to Ft. Gordon's fire works display yesterday. Awesome. And no, I have not just misused that word. We sat close enough to feel the ash sprinkle our faces from on high! Hell yes that was AWESOME! The smell of firework smoke and ash is love. Hmm.

That's the funny thing about the Ft. Gordon displays. It's always before the actual 4th so it doesn't interfere with the actual holiday. Nice. Each time they also have at least one new type of firework and the show always has a big finale. One of the most memorable new fireworks this year was a slow flying red one that had a sparkling red comet tail effect. That doesn't really describe...but you can never capture the gorgeous sight of a firework properly. Not in words, pictures or video. Ah well, always in the mind's eye at least!

On a side note, this picture reminds me of danihana & _gerald for the 4th and I hope they enjoy! XD

Farrah Fawcett (Charlie's Angels) and Michael Jackson (of musical acclaim) died today. And while I did not care for either on a personal level, their deaths still strike a chord within me. It seems like the dieing gasps of a cultural era have begun to echo. In it's own way this is sad. For many people, they were powerful emblems of their past. Physical manifestations of their memories have just passed away. It's a difficult thing to cope with and I wish those people great fortitude.

I've had my own little 'theory' on people like this. I have a few friends who seem to have one misfortune after another. I have dubbed people with this proclivity to misfortune 'bad luck sinks'. These people are very important to the rest of the population and this is why. Bad fortune gravitates towards these people and as a result the rest of the population is more likely to have good fortune. They siphon off random bad fortune so that the rest of us can go about our daily lives relatively hassle free.

Lesson to be learned: Be grateful to these individuals, they provide us with a great service at their own expense.

On the other hand, 'good luck sinks' (of which there are some) are jack asses. They siphon off random good fortune that would otherwise benefit the rest of the populace. The selfish prigs.

Is the name of a "...stream-of-consciousness list of all the reasons why it's not really worth waking up in the morning." book written by Lia Romeo & Nick Romeo that I purchased today. It's purpose is to be "a much-needed antidote to our culture of raging optimism". It's actually quite a fun read because of it's poke at books that extort all the little things that make life worth living. Because it's generally entertaining, I'm going to occasionally mention topics from it for my LJ friends to ignore or comment on at their leisure. 1. Do you like this character?

YES! 'Like' is too weak a way of phrasing things. I'm obsessed with this character far beyond any other creation in anime! I regularly look on eBay for new Raditz things! I'm still hoping for a wall scroll of him, which if created, I will promptly cause a bidding war over. I have faithfully been a fan of this character for 9+ years and I doubt that will change any time soon.

2. What name/s do you call this character?

I go with the absurdly obvious nickname of 'Radish' or less obviously 'Hot n' Sexy'. I also go with Raditz and Raddittsu.

3. What image-color do you associate with this character?

(blinks) Amazingly enough, I'm not sure. I suppose red for his mocking attitude and temper. Black is also good, for his hair.

4. What image/song do you associate with this character?

T_T; I don't think I've done this for him. Perhaps Creedence Clearwater Revival's 'Bad Moon Rising'? He did herald the beginning of Dragonball Z and the mood change from Dragonball to Dragonball Z. As for image...I will always remember shots of him with that long mane of hair shifting in the wind. XD

5. What blood-type do you think this character is?

Type B...except for the whole disliking custom thing. You can look here to see an article on this.

First and foremost, Vegeta...specifically Raditz/Vegeta. I don't just like to put those two together, I LOVE to put those two together. I'm also fond of Raditz/Yamucha and Raditz/GT Trunks. Don't ask me for premise...I know the latter two pairings never had a chance to meet (I don't need a reason!). I like other pairings without Raditz, but this meme is all about Raditz today so I won't go into them.

7. What would you want to say to this character?

"Can I draw you naked?"

Glomp and squeeze! Then be touchy, feely (hair, body, everything). I'd probably get my neck snapped for it...but I'd be remembered forever for my audacity!

Why yes, yes I do. I love this character who thinks so damn much. Why else would I have collected every single book in the series...as well as the graphic novels? And made almost all of my D&D characters drow or part drow? Unless I were a complete masochist.

2. What name/s do you call this character?

Drizzt or alternatively, Wind-bag, Redundant, Monologue Man or Mr. Smexy!

3. What image-color do you associate with this character?

Purple (Not just for his eyes...he's also rather gay. He took way too long to get together with Cattie-brie. He needs Wulfgar to give him some sweet, rough luvin'.)

4. What image/song do you associate with this character?

Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson...it just...WORKS. Especially for the books where he's growing up in the Underdark.

A lot of fan girls like to put Drizzt with Artemis, but I don't think it works. The personalities clash far too much. Nor does it work with Jarlaxle...who is just...too Jarlaxle. But because I'm a yaoi pervert...a FUJOSHI, I don't usually look at male/female pairings (There are exceptions, like for Slayers. I like Zelgadis/Lina and Gourry/Lina). I like putting Drizzt with Wulfgar, specifically Wulfgar/Drizzt. Screw Cattie-brie...damn cripple (XD I'm so wrong!)!

1. Do you like this character?

I like them both. But I like Kakashi more. He's just more fun! Sai is kind of boring compared to him. Sai also tends to be a lot more...obnoxious. I guess I just haven't seen enough of Sai. He doesn't really get all that much 'air time' in the manga.

2. What name/s do you call this character?

...Sai & Kakashi respectively. I suck at nicknames! T_T

3. What image-color do you associate with this character?

Sai = paste/off-white (because he's pretty bland) Kakashi = gray or pale yellow

4. What image/song do you associate with this character?

...I don't think I associate songs with either of these characters. They're not my absolute favorite characters so I don't think of them enough to bother.

Sai = O. Kakashi = AB I don't really know which blood types are associated with which personalities. I just think of O as inert and AB as active & calm.

No one for both actually. I just don't care and they seem better single. Though sometimes it amuses me to think of Sai with Ino...if only for the chaos.

Sai - Nothing. He's too boring to talk to, I just like that he draws. No offense to anyone who thinks he's the best thing since sliced bread. He's fine, I'm just not a huge fan. Kakashi - I wouldn't know what to say. Hi maybe? @_@;

This was an excellent review of Dragonball: Evolution! Especially comment number 38 after the review. No matter how many times you say something is 're-imaged' or 'modernized'...if it's shit, it's shit. You can't spray perfume on crap and then say it smells just like Obsession.

You know, the movie could have been good even with all the stuff they cut out if they'd stayed faithful to the spirit of the Dragonball series. But they didn't. So the movie sucks. It sucks even if you pretend it has nothing to do with Dragonball.

I mean heck, 4Kids does a better job with the anime it takes control of than FOX did with this movie. And that's saying a lot considering how 4Kids butchers anime.

On a side note, Oozaru is tiny.

Oh...and on an additional side note, I'm gleeful because so many other people realize this movie is poop, feces...yes, even CA-CA!!!!

Nah, I'm not singing. It's getting close to my b-day and I'm planning on getting myself something. I won't be able to this month...had to purchase new glasses and that cost a small fortune.

So, why am I getting myself a b-day present? Well, when I was growing up my parents would never get me what I actually wanted...not quite sure why. And when they gave me money as a present I would get criticized when I bought something I actually wanted. In essence, 'You're wasting your money on junk.' Well now that I'm an 'adult' and have a job...it really IS my money. So I spend it how I see fit or responsibly, for better or worse. Typically it's on bills...and buying small stuff for myself (such as eating out...really gotta stop doing that). But at this time of the year I can pin justification on a purchase using my b-day as an excuse!

I've been waffling on what I want to get for a bit. I was thinking a set of copic pens (black ink pens, not color markers) and a light box. I've been informed that I shouldn't buy the pens for myself.... But I looked around on dickblick.com (danihana told me about the website, mucho gracias!) and I saw a couple of decent looking light boxes. The Artograph Lightracer Light Box and the Gagne Porta-Trace Thin Panel Light Box. I like the larger size on both models...but I'd love to get dani's opinion on them. The first's larger size is bigger than the second's larger size. But I'm not entirely sure how I feel about the tilted work surface. The second is extremely portable and flat so it'd be easy on my wrist because my forearm would be level with my hand, though I'm not sure it would be hanging off the edge all that much. They're both about the same price too...so I dunno.

A PSP. I've seen several games that have really caught my interest. I can even list 'em and their prices. Yes, I'm a consumer whore and a technophile. And rather greedy. I admit it freely. I'm a flawed human being...but who isn't! ANY WAYS, here's the list (and no, I'm not making gift requests, merely posting this for my own future use and reference). The light boxes are a far cheaper choice...but I love tech so....

for what I saw on the afternoon of March 15th, 2009 (Sunday and the Ides of March indeed!). The abbreviation just doesn't work. Doesn't begin to accurately describe what I saw. For what I saw, the following is better.

OH. MY. GOD.

Yes, each word is a sentence unto itself. Not shouted...only stated in a serious, horror-tinged and disbelieving tone. And with a pause in between each word.

That is all I can say about the preview I saw for the live action Dragonball movie (Dragonball Evolution) that's coming out.

OH. MY. GOD.

This is the only way to succinctly describe the horror of this movie. The only way to describe this abomination without going into paragraphs of why it sucks so hard.

I am a Dragonball and Dragonball Z fan. And my good sirs...I am offended. I AM OFFENDED BY THIS MONSTROUS PIECE OF CRAP'S ASSAULT ON MY FANDOM!

Not All that Great a List

Their list. And alright, it's not too bad. At least there's the admission that not all animation is just for kids (FINALLY). But I had some problems with the content of the list. Why is it that almost all of the animations listed had to do with sex, drugs, war and apocolyptic futures (Thank God at least Fantasia was listed...one of the few exceptions!)? Is that really all that defines 'adult' animation? Can't there be animation that doesn't focus on that but still be considered 'for adults'? Why can't more light hearted animations that don't look like drug trips be 'for adults'? Why limit ourselves to just the depressing stuff? I mean, c'mon...we're adults. Adult means having responsibilities, not 'no fun'. Just because something isn't bleak, serious or mock societal norms doesn't mean it's a kid's only thing.

Not to mention that the majority of the list is American animation. There are a FEW exceptions, but not many. I applaud the inclusion of 'Akira' but admittedly I'm not fond of the insinuation that anime typically lacks a strong narrative. And what about animations such as 'The Plague Dogs' or 'Watership Down'? Nevermind the vast numbers of anime that have mature themes and encompass a variety of genres in entertainment.

I think this article could have put a little more research into examples. Animation is a vast medium that encompasses both the ideas of art, entertainment AND is enjoyable by people of all ages if they're willing to open their minds to it.
