Most of the time, I am not a rabid anime fan. Don't get me wrong, I love anime. It's one of my supreme interests. But when someone says that they don't like a series that I happen to love, I don't typically freak. Nor do I freak if they don't like anime (I just pity them.) That's their opinion.
However, when it was found out that I enjoy Naruto, one of my friends said he didn't like the show. I admit, I was mildly annoyed (mainly because he said he didn't like it a moment after I said I did)...but I wasn't going to rage about it or anything. That's a personal preference after all.
What sort of blew my mind was the reason he gave for not liking the show. The initial reason he gave was as follows. 'It makes ninjas look too common.' Which in essence, can mean...'It has too many ninjas.' Pause. Breath. Think about that for a minute while it tickles your sense of incredulity.
When I think about it now, I want to wet myself with laughter. It's an anime...that centralizes on...ninjas...in ninja villages. How could they NOT show up frequently and seem common? They are villages located in large countries filled with many more normal people than there are ninjas. I hardly think there are a lot of them...they just happen to be the focal point of the story. Now, I'm not mad, don't think that I am. I just want to explain everything thoroughly so you can understand why this is so funny. I think this is absolutely hilarious and I wanted to share. It tickles my sense of the absurd and I hope it does for you too.
Oh, and after I mentioned this...I found out later that he changed his reason for disliking the show. Now it's because it has too much filler. I haven't gotten to see that far...so I don't know what those episodes are like (though I usually have no problem with filler). I have no issues with his new reasoning though.
If he ever happens to read this, I can only hope he doesn't take it the wrong way. I'm not trying to make fun of him. I only wanted to share what I thought was (and is) a funny moment.
